Project:
CARBOBAN – Regenerative Banana Production and Integrated Environmental Certification in Colombia
CARBOBAN is a joint development initiative of Compras Americas SAS (Colombia) and merckens development support gmbh (Germany). The project aims to further develop an already sustainably managed biodynamic banana farm into a model for climate-resilient and regenerative agriculture.
The project focuses on developing a certification pathway for the voluntary carbon market while exploring additional environmental certification schemes for biodiversity and plastic credits. At the same time, regenerative farming practices are expanded and their environmental impacts are scientifically documented.
Activities include additional agroforestry with native tree species, biodiversity enhancement, reductions in plastic and fossil-resource use, and improvements in water and soil management. All new measures are evaluated for their environmental additionality in accordance with internationally recognised standards.
Compras Americas SAS provides the pilot farm and implements the project activities in Colombia. merckens development support gmbh is responsible for project development, technical advisory services, and the design of the certification and monitoring strategy.
